CREATE profile

CREATE is the group for Computational Research in Emergent Architectural Technology, founded and directed since 2018 by Associate Professor Roberto Naboni. The group is based at the TEK Faculty of the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and it is an integral part of the section of SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE).

CREATE explores novel architectural ideas and processes at the intersection with the fields of computer science, advanced manufacturing and emergent material technologies. We look into the fast-evolving landscape of emerging technology in order to develop projects and concepts as answers to the challenges of our contemporaneity, from the effects of climate change to well-being of city users.

Within the high-tech context of SDU, the group undertakes research and teaching activities in the fields of Industry 4.0, Additive Manufacturing (AM), Architectural Robotics, Virtual and Augmented Reality. We develop interdisciplinary research and projects with a team of highly skilled design researchers, and a network of academic and industrial collaborators.

In its physical infrastructure, the CREATE Lab, are studied future scenarios of constructions with a project-driven integrative research approach: from disruptive concepts to applied research, bringing together design and making through progress in technology.

sdu civil and architectural engineering

CREATE is part of SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering, a section which promotes education and research activities in the planning and understanding of the built environment, following the philosophy of Total Design. SDU CAE’s activity is carried out by an international and multidisciplinary team with expertise areas in computational design, digital fabrication, concrete and timber structures, facade design and engineering, sustainable design and urban resilience. All our activities are supported by state-of-the-art facilities for learning and conducting laboratory-based investigations in structural and material testing, analyses of indoor and outdoor environments, digitally enhanced design, digital fabrication and automation in construction.
